I´m going to make myself some vases using old bottles. To "cut off" the top of the bottle, you wrap masking tape around the bottle at the position where you want to cut the top off. There should be a ridge. Then you use a glass cutter and make a groove all along the masking tape - heat the bottle with a tea light or candle, then plunge into cold water. The part where you´ve made the groove, breaks off
