Adaptation for Unicorn
Using 2 balls of Vinnis Colours Serina in Grey and 1 ball in Light Aqua and one pair or 9mm safety eyes.
...
Follow the Springbok pattern with the following adaptations:
Make one small horn, as indicated for the rhino, adding two more rounds at the end (11 rounds in total). Use colour Light Aqua.
Use colour Grey for ears (x2), head and body.
Make the ears but leave out round 7-10. Round 6 is completed with only 4dc at the end, total number of stitches on round 6: 28.
Complete the head and body as for the Springbok, without any of the colour changes.
For the legs (x4) use colour Light Aqua, leave out round 5-10.
Continue with round 12 and then proceed as follows:
Next round: 18dc, sl-st
Change to colour Grey and continue in spirals.
First round: 18dc
Next round: *1dc, invd *x6, (12st)
Stuff the hoof.
Make 12dc in each round for 23 rounds.
Do not stuff the legs.
Follow the assembly instructions for the Springbok, except for the horn, which is placed between the eyes across round 17-19.
For the mane
Cut lengths of Light Aqua yarn, approximately 10cm long.
Fold in half and tie a knot on the folded end. The knot should be fairly big, but small enough so it can by pushed through the stitches.
Start two rows behind the horn. Use the three stitches directly in line with the horn and, using a tapestry needle, insert two strands of knotted yarn in the central stitch and one strand into each of the stitches on the left and right.
Do this with each row on the head, right down to the join with the body.
The mane can be cur shorter, if desired.
For the tail:
Cut lengths if Light Aqua, approximately 40cm long.
Fold in half and tie a knot on the folded end. The knot should be fairly big, but small enough so it can by pushed through the stitches.
Using a tapestry needle, insert two strands of knotted yarn into the central stitch of round 10 (counting from the magic ring up).
Insert two strands into the stitch one row up, insert two more strands into the stitch to the left and two to the right.
Repeat but add one more stitch to the left and to the right (five stitches in total).
Repeat again but using only the three central stitches.
Lastly, repeat once more, using only the central stitch.
To fluff the mane and tail:
Use a fine tooth comb and carefully comb the mane and the tail, starting at the end of the mane/tail and working up to the base. Be careful not to pull too hard or you will rip the strands of yarn out.
