DOG BISCUITS

Ingredients:

80 g suet or white lard eg Holsum, grated...
250 ml boiling water
50 ml OXO spread
250 ml SPAR oats
190 ml SPAR fat-free instant powdered milk
190 ml SPAR maize meal
625 g whole-wheat flour ( 1 litre)
2 large eggs

Method:

1. Preheat oven to 160 º C.
2. Measure the lard and OXO into a 3 litre SPAR Good Living 3 litre porcelain mixing bowl. Pour over the boiling water and set aside for the lard to melt.
3. Add all the remaining ingredients and mix to a firm ball of dough.
4. Press the dough into a lightly greased SPAR Good Living non-stick baking pan. Cut 8 lines across the width and 10 lines down the length, to deeply score the biscuit sizes. Bake for 40 minutes.
5. Break the biscuits apart.
6. Leave them to dry, in the turned-off oven,until they resemble small rusks.
7. Once cool, store the biscuits in a SPAR Good Living airtight container.

Hints and Tips:

You may prefer to rather roll balls and press them flat with a fork before baking.
Remember these are treats, and not recommended as a nutritional supplement or food substitute.
If you want to increase the nutritional value, visit a health store or pharmacy and add in a few spoons of brewers yeast, bone meal and liver powder.
