STOKBROOD
Stok Brood is a scrumptious bread snack that is simple, social and easy to make!
YOU NEED:
1 kg cake flour
5ml salt
20g instant yeast
110g margarine
250ml buttermilk
350ml lukewarm milk
WHAT TO DO:
1. Sift the flour and salt together, sprinkle the instant yeast on top and mix well.
2. Rub the margarine and the flour mixture together between the tips of your fingers.
3. Add the buttermilk and sufficient lukewarm water to form a stiff dough.
4. Knead until the dough is smooth and elastic and no longer sticks to your fingers.
5. Cover the dough and leave for 30 minutes at room temperature.
6. Knead down and divide into 12 equal portions.
7. Roll each piece of dough until it is 20 to 25cm long and twist each roll in a spiral around a stick.
8. Slowly bake over medium to hot coals (don’t let it touch the flames). Turn the stick slowly so that the bread bakes evenly.
9. Remove the stick from the cooked bread and fill with butter, syrup, jam or boerewors. Enjoy!
TIP:
If you don’t have the time to make bread dough, order it from
your local grocery store ahead of time.
