CHEESY PAP POPS
Maize is not to be underestimated! Level up the side dishes for your next braai with this pap recipe:
YOU NEED:
250ml milk
500ml water
1 tsp salt
250ml maize meal
2 tbps finely chopped parsley
2 eggs, beaten
250ml dry bread crumbs
200g mature cheddar cheese, cut into small blocks
Oil for deep frying
WHAT TO DO:
1. Bring the water, milk, and salt to a boil. Slowly whisk in the maize meal until porridge is smooth and creamy. Add chopped parsley and freshly ground black pepper.
2. Transfer into a bowl and allow to cool. When completely cool, take a handful of porridge and flatten it in the palm of your hand. Place a block of cheddar cheese in the centre and form the porridge around the cheese to the size of a golf ball.
3. Dip balls into beaten egg and then into bread crumbs. Deep fry in hot oil until golden brown.
4. Serve immediately with a rich tomato sauce or sweet chilli sauce.
